In light of the ongoing advances in technology, there has been an increasing pressure placed on children to excel academically. This has drove some to believe that it is best to eliminate pratical or creative subjects such as cooking and sports from the school’s curriculum in favor of the other more theoretical subjects. I strongly disagree as not only do they offer an escape for the child’s overworked mind but they are also crucial for developing valuable skills and maintaining physical health.
To begin with, there is no denying that there is a never-ending quest for knowledge, discoveries and inventions in various fields and sciences and this has lead parents and educational institutions to encourage more young people to pursue such fields rather than their more pratical counterparts. While studying academic sciences do require alot of time and dedication, practicing a physical sport like football is equally essential for the human body. It helps release frustrations and negative feelings while releasing endorphins that keeps the mind and body feeling refreshed. Therefore, ensuring better focus while studying.
Additionally, participating in creative classes such as cooking or pottery, teaches children many valuable pratical and social skills that could benefit them as they grow older. For example, students who have learnt how to cook basic meals can now look after themselves if they decide to travel abroad alone for college. Moreover, the presence of such classes allow students the opportunity to explore artisitic and creative fields that they may show greater interests in, unlocking their hidden potential and nuturing their talents allowing them to thrive and grow as artists.
To sum up, whether its a theoretical or a pratical subject both carry equal importance for the child’s education and development and neither can be prioritized over the other. It is my view that having non-theoritical classes help maintain both mental and physical health, gain valuable skills and uncover artistic talents.
