With the increasing number of serious crimes committed every year some people argue that the death penalty is the best solution for preventing crimes, while others believe alternative measures are more effective. Although death penalty may seem to be a powerful deterrent, I share the view of those who believe other methods, like increasing police enforcement using modern technology are necessary because they can prevent crime in a more practical way.
Many people believe that the death penalty is the most effective way to reduce serious crime because it creates the strongest feel of fear among potential offenders. The idea of losing humans life acts as a powerful warning that discourages individuals from committing hard crimes such as murder or terrorism. Death penalty sends a clear message that society has zero tolerance for the most violent offences. As a result, fewer people will risk to take part in serious criminal behaviour. However, this effect may depend on how strongly individuals actually consider the consequences before committing a crime.
Stronger law enforcement plays a key role in reducing serious crime. Strengthening the police force, using modern technology, and improving investigation methods can increase the chances of criminals being identified and arrested. When individuals know that there is a high probability of being caught, they may think more carefully before committing a crime. For example, artificial intelligence is now used in some cities to analyse security camera recordings and identify suspicious behaviour, which helps police detect crimes much faster. As a result, crime rates can be reduced more effectively through practical enforcement rather than punishment.
In conclusion, even though the death penalty may seem like a strong deterrent, I share the view that improving police enforcement is a more effective solution because they can prevent crime in a more practical way.
