Nowadays, the number of rural dwellers migrating to cities for purposes of finding jobs or receiving services is growing all around the world. In this essay, I intend to discuss the main effects of rural depopulation and suggest some methods to prevent this trend.
Surprisingly, the effects of rural depopulation can be felt more in urban than in rural areas. The overcrowding of cities throughout the world results in myriad environmental issues in cities, such as water, air, and noise pollution. Tehran is a good example of this. This phenomenon also leads to increased crime, high unemployment, less affluent countries, and the creation of slums in cities. Clearly, there is a limit to how many people can live in an area before living standards are negatively influenced. Moreover, migrating from the villages to the cities may impact the economy of the countries where this crisis occurs there. Because of the workforce shortage in the agriculture sector, these types of countries are not able to produce adequate crops for the consumption of their citizens, and they are forced to import fruits and vegetables from other nations.
In order to stem the tide of rural depopulation, I personally believe that we must address its root causes. Clearly, there is a disparity between services and facilities available in rural areas and those in urban areas. If we build more hotels, shopping malls, schools, hospitals, and swimming pools in rural area people would be persuaded to stay there, and they would not migrate to cities in order to find these facilities. In this way, the countryside would be more appealing to both city and rural residents alike. Another method to attract more people to rural areas is for governments to provide the financial incentives to businesses and workers who are willing to relocate there.
In conclusion, I feel that this problem is unlikely to be resolved in the short term. However, it is by no means insurmountable, and I am convinced that people will choose the country as city life becomes less comfortable and more expensive.
