Band 6+: These days, it seems that an increasing number of people are leaving rural areas to live in the city. Discuss some of the effects of rural depopulation (migration from the country to the city ) and suggest some ways on which this trend could be reversed

In the recent few decades, we have witnessed immense rise in countryside’s depletion of residents due to immigration to urban areas. In the subsequent paragraphs I will expound the impacts of this problem and bring some ideas to the table about how this phenomenon could be resolved as well.

In the current age there seems to be an elevation in resettlement rate of the rural people into the cities given the higher employment and job opportunities, acceptable facilities and in general, supreme life quality. As a result of this incident, uncontrolled rural depopulation surely occurs which will eventually lead to overcrowded cities with numerous problems as noise, air and water pollution. As a further instance, Tehran the capital of Iran which has been hosting people of other cities now has reached a population of over 13 million people. Tehran is currently striving on water shortage and substandard water and air quality which annually gives rise to countless fatalities; moreover, signs of creations of slums on the city verge are recorded.

I firmly believe that in order to stem the tides of rural depopulation, we ought to first address the root causes. The centerpiece of this occurrence is principally imbalance and inequality between services, facilities and infrastructures in cities and those of in the country. Hence, if the authorities put their upmost effort to make enhancements in rural areas’ potentials and resources, people would be more appealed to relocate to the vacant countries. Further, another probable approach could be provided monetary incentives by governments for people who are willing move out of the metropolitan areas. For instance, Tokyo renowned as the most populous city in the world is offering people significant amounts of money to encourage them to leave the city.
