In recent times, many people have started returning to education and quitting their jobs. While this may be a good option for a lot of people, I firmly believe that the disadvantages greatly outweigh the advantages. This is mainly because experience gained through years of work is irreplaceable. While further education can add an in-depth understanding of a particular sector, this can easily be achieved by devoting some time to work projects.
On one hand, a lot of people have started leaving their jobs for several reasons. The most significant reason is for seeking higher education. While this can be beneficial for an individual, overall it leads to a significant decrease in skilled workforce. Apart from decrease in manforce, this also leads to a decrease in the efficiency of the organisation that the individual works in. For example, if a person decides to quit, the entirety of his work is pushed off onto others. This puts immense pressure on other employees of a company, leading to lower output. When qualified people leave, this not only effects the productivity of the company, but also effects leads to decreased results.
On the other hand, having the experience earned through working leads to better opportunities in the future. For instance, people look for internships to work on their skills and upgrade their resume. While, seeking further education can definitely contribute to better understanding of a particular field, it is ultimately practical experience that leads to career growth. In my opinion, the understanding of a particular sector can only be achieved through exposure to it for a long time.
In a nutshell, I believe that people who are a part of the existing labour force, should try to focus on sharpening their skills. Instead of leaving their jobs to pursue further education, they should try to make the best out of their current scenario.
