Nowadays, an increasing number of people are going for online shopping than they did in the past. While there are valid merits for this trend, I believe that it has several negative effects that should be considered.
Admittedly, there are two main reasons why people are choosing buying items online over traditional ways of shopping. Firstly, if people order products using the internet, they do not need to go to shops to buy them. Instead, they can spend that time for cooking, studying, working and so on. Be it their workplace or home, people’s purchases will be delivered to anywhere they wish. Secondly, product diversity is often higher if you do online shopping. People have to go to different shops to find their preferred item. However, with online shops, they can simply search for the products they are looking for, and easily find them. Not only that, but people can also order products from other countries which can offer them even wider selection.
No matter how convenient online shopping is, its disadvantages should not be overlooked. Items in online shops are often shown in pictures or videos, which might be exaggerated. Once people purchase those products, their low quality compared to the advertisements is, unfortunately, inevitable. For instance, if a person buys an outfit, it might not fit himher, or can be made of a low quality fabric. This, in turn, makes for a customer dissatisfaction, and that shop is likely to receive numerous complaints, which can weaken its reputation. Moreover, items in online shops are usually more costly compared to local shops. Plus, extra amount of money should be paid for delivery. As a result of this, people can spent too much money on one product, which means they can even run out of money when it comes to buying basic needs, such as food.
In conclusion, although online shopping gives people extra time for doing other activities and offers them a wide variety of products, low quality of products and excessive amount of money spent on these items are the drawbacks of shopping online that people should take into account.
