Band 6: With the rise in popularity of the internet, newspapers will soon become a thing of the past. To what extent do you agree or disagree? (User-Written IELTS Writing Task 2 Essay)

In today’s technological world, where number internet users are at it’s peak, it is expected that physical newspaper will be replaced by online news platforms. I completely agree with this statement and following paragraphs will provide reasons to support this view.

In recent times, the government is focusing on reducing the amount of paper being utlized and directing the countries towards a paperless economy. E-newspaper and other online news platform do not require paper making them completely paperless. This approach is not only more sustainable but also a better business strategy for media firms. Consequently, It is likely that traditional news papers will be replaced by e-newspapers.

In addition to sustainability, there are a couple of major benefits, Firstly, publishing news over the internet can potentially reach wider audience than traditional newspapers. Secondly, going green for publishing news can significantly reduce operational costs. While traditional newspaper require a large amount of machinery and manpower to produce physical copies, transitioning completely online will eliminate this expense for media firms. Additionally, companies can gain valuable insights from their online readership and use this data to improve their content.

Some argue that traditional newspapers offer a unique reading experince and tangible values that digital platforms can not. Indeed, physical newspaper provides a certain level of satisfaction for many readers. However, the benefits of e-newspapers, such as environment friendliness and cost efficiency, out weigh the nostalgic value of traditional newspapers. For instance, major publications have reported significant savings after transitioning to digital formats and seen their readership grow globally, which would be impossible with physical copies.

In conclusion, the conversion from physical newspaper to e-newspaper is inevitable and beneficial in this modern world, While nostalgic value of physical newspaper is undeniable, the advantages of e-paper in terms of sustainability, reduced operational costs and wider readership are far more compelling.
