Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 7+: With the rise of remote work, companies are increasingly employing individuals from different countries instead of hiring locally. Do the advantages of a global workforce outweigh the disadvantages for both companies and local communities?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The increasing popularity of remote work has enabled companies employ people from abroad. While this development offers a greater flexibility and access to skilled professionals, it also creates challenges in terms of communication and team management.

One significant advantage of hiring employees from different countries is that companies can access a wide range of talent pool. Instead of being limited to candidates in local area, employers can hire the most qualified people regardless of their location. As a result, businesses are likely to build highly skilled teams, which in turn, can improve innovation and overall productivity. As an example, a software company based in Germany can employ experienced developers from India or Brazil, if they have the expertise required for a particular project. Even more important benefit is that international recruitment can reduce operating costs. As salaries and living expenses vary across countries, companies are able to hire employees at lower cost, allowing them to invest more in product development or business expansion.

However, employing an international workforce also has several drawbacks. One major disadvantage is that communication can become a problem. Since the differences in language proficiency and cultural backgrounds vary, it may lead to misunderstandings especially during complex projects. Consequently, mistakes can occur more frequently, reducing the efficiency in the team. In addition, employees working in different time zones often find it difficult to attend in important meetings or make decisions quickly. For instance, a manager in Europe may have to wait several hours before his colleagues from Asia or North America answer him, slowing down the completion of crucial tasks.

In conclusion, hiring employees internationally provides companies valuable opportunities to recruit highly skilled workers and decrease business costs. Nevertheless, communication barriers and time-zone differences remain significant challenges.
