After the world got hit by a global pandemic, the phrase “work from home” got more popular.Several start up companies solely rely on this, because they do not have to pay for the infrastructure and a building. Although this seems to have a positive effect on many individuals, it also has quite a few drawbacks. I personally believe that there is a downside to this that not many of the working proffesionals know about.
On one hand, it is boon to the society because, once the employee is done with the work, he or she gets to spend some quality time with family or friends. In addition to this, commute time can be spent on fitness or used for running errands. For example, my friend who is an I.T professional, works from home three days a week and during these days, he takes time for himself, goes to lunch with his friends. Along with that he also visits his grandmother who lives in a different area after he is done with his work sessions. So, in this perspective, this is an absolute advantage.
On the other hand, Employees generally find it difficult to perform the tasks when there is any issue or a problem and most importantly, this need lot of communication, which would be easy when interacted one on one. On top of that, few sectors like health and law can not function in this path. I can attest to this, because as a doctor myself, I never had a work from home day. Moreover, there are many people who crave for social interactions and budding proffesionals love to experience working environment.
To sum up, although working from home has few merits, one has to look beyond their comfort zone or convenience to realize its negative side. I think that it is time for people to come back to the offices.
