On the one hand, the first benefit is easy communication. Instead of meeting face to face to chat, by using social networking sites, people have a chance to connect with each other around the world. For example, throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, when people are isolated, social media is a powerful tool to stay connected with friends, family members, colleagues despite the geographical barriers. Furthermore, the second advantage is acquiring new knowledge. With a huge number of users, platforms possess a diverse amount of information which allows users to comfortably access and update knowledge every day. For instance, we can easily find websites with instructions for cooking a dish or tips on social networks.
On the other hand, the disadvantages of social media replacing face-to-face interaction are much more concerning. The first cons is the huge amount of fake news being spread on these platforms.
In conclusion, although social media may bring many upsides for people such as the convenience to keep in touch with people online and a chance to learn new information about the world, there are also risks, particularly the fake news and being stolen personal information.
