Some people believe that the combination of the government’s subsidy in public transportation and affordable ticket fees will massively decrease transport pollution. I strongly agree with this opinion since it will encourage citizens to use it frequently so that there will be more people shifting from private vehicles to public transportation.
There has been a growing usage of private vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles, making it one of the primary causes of air pollution in recent years. This means the government should develop a policy so that using public transportation can be more appealing. So Indeed Public transportation incentives from the government to generate cheaper price tickets will benefit transport operators, the public, and the environment. Additionally, people who come from a low-income economy will enormously be helped by this policy. For example, TransJakarta which is a Bus Rapid Transit service in Jakarta has been receiving government incentives for the ticket price. This has positive impacts which are the growth of TransJakarta passengers and eventually resulted in enormous impacts on the environment in the long term.
This scheme can also motivate people to shift from their private automobiles due to the engaging public transportation fee tickets. Therefore there will be a reciprocal benefit for the city development as well. For instance, the KRL (Commuter Line) in Jakarta has been known for their increasing passenger growth due to their cheap price ticket, resulting in the growing need for greener development in some areas of Jakarta.
In conclusion, government investment in public transportation and the reduction of the tariff will greatly benefit the environment. This will scale down private vehicle usage and eventually will reduce air pollution.
