An increasing number of People are choosing to free up more time to focus on their studies by abandoning non-academic subjects. In my opinion, i strongly agree with this standpoint because it can help students reduce stress and anxiety, and overall help them gain higher grades.
The primary concern about students having extra subjects is burnout. Fatigue, anxiety and stress are obvious problems, but there are more ways this could affect people’s mental health. For instance, I heard that students who are overwhelmed have a higher chance of suicide, like in South Korea during the national test. A further major issue is that this lowers total free time for students, limiting their social life and dragging them into depression.
An additional reason for my stance is that I believe that people should choose exactly what they want to study because this keeps them motivated and focused. If the educational system limits people’s freedom, they will be less likely to enjoy their time, improve their grades and overall be a good part of society. I believe that, if people have the ability to choose their side activities, they will excel in them. In contrast, if the school controls them, this will make students less likely to enjoy the activities and quit them.
Therefore, although it has always been popular for students to study non-academic subjects, it has brought about too many problems, like fatigue, anxiety, stress and burnout for this to be considered a positive trend.
