In this day and age, people worldwide have shown a significant interest in criminal punishment. It is commonly believed that the youth’s serious crimes should be punished in the same way as adults. In my opinion, I am somewhat inclined to disagree with this statement.
From one perspective, it is evident that implementing a penalty holds many demerits. One initial reason to be considered is poor judgement. Lack of both experiences and knowledge at a young age has intensified people’s distorted perception when they are forced to participate in negative social problems. As a result, individuals freely make unthoughtful decisions, indirectly leading to serious crimes. Additionally, the surrounding environment also contributes a lot to the roots of delinquencies. As a case in point, children living in violent communities such as hooligan, or slums, are likely to have the same negative inclination, gradually making up their minds to become more and more aggressive.
On the other hand, it is important to acknowledge that enforcing laws strictly on the youth in the same as adults may also have certain benefits. One of the advantages is protection of society. It is necessary for the authorities to prevent offenders and violent criminals from harming others. Besides, life imprisonment protects the public from further crimes, thereby formulating a sustainably united community. On top of that, the merits are encouraged by the existence of education in prison. This enables young people to follow rules through the duration. Consequently, the state facilitates offenders not only to rehabilitate their behaviours and proves helpful in raising awareness of society.
In conclusion, it is irrefutable that the aforementioned perception holds some benefits. However, I would contend that it may pose some risks, including poor judgement .
