On one hand, this entertainment is interesting and helps people to find friends with the same interests easier. But, in my opinion it is a real problem because people are forgetting their culture and traditions. This popularised media cannot replace the own history, so this development cannot be an advantage.
The modern industry of films and media is really appealing, because it offers interesting content, which we all really like. It makes our life more interesting, because by watching movies people can see places, where they never have been or experience emotions, they never have felt before. Also this type of culture helps to find friends easier. When you and your partner have the same interests, it is easy to talk. For example, Harry Potter films became popular and today we cannot imagine winter holidays without watching one of the series.
However, this type of entertainment cannot replace local culture and traditions. And the problem is that difference between countries is decreasing. People are more likely want to watch a new film, than to borrow a book in the library and reveal new facts about place where they live. Each country has a great historical past, and, in my opinion, it is better to visit museum or go to the theatre. For example, reading famous books helps not only to open something interesting, but also makes you clever.
To conclude, nowadays the global industry of entertainment replaces the local culture and history of a certain country. Despite the fact that it is really interesting watching new movies and following the modern fashion, people should spend their time on education also.
