In urban areas, the number of cars has been increasing every year, and this has caused lots of problems for the residents. Thus, some areas are adopting rules that stop personal vehicles usage in specific days, and I believe this development is highly beneficial.
Banning personal vehicles such as private cars, trucks, and motorcycles can disrupt the live of the people living in the city because they rely on these modes of transportation to commute. Especially in working days, these rules will cause delays at work as well as other activities that depend on transportation. For example, trucks transporting goods will be forced to work on few days, so good will take extra days to get in and out of the city. This will affect all parts of the town since transportation is key.
With that being said, restricting the use of private cars and allowing public transportation, will have a significant impact on reduction of carbon emittion, as well as improving the lives of the residents. Cars on the road are major contributers to the noise and air polution in cities, and the use of buses and taxis will reduce the number of vehicles on the road and carbon emittion at the same time. For example, when using individual cars, 5 people will drive 5 cars. However, if those people use a bus they are using one vehicle, so they can reduce their impact on the environment by 80%.
In conclusion, while some activities will be affected by vehicle free days in cities, I believe its benefit outweighs the harm, especially if it done on the weekends.
