The bar graph provides information on the distribution of older population in the United Kingdom in 1985 and illustrates forecasts for 2035.

Overall, it is clear that the proportion of elderly people is expected to increase in all four countries of the UK by 2025, with Wales predicted to have the highest percentage, but the opposite is true for Northern Ireland, while the UK as a whole will see a significant rise.

Regarding the figures for Wales and Scotland, both show notable growth in their ageing population. In 1985, Wales had approximately 16% of its population aged 65 and over, and this pattern is predicted to increase to around 26% in 2035. Similarly, Scotland had around 14% of its population in the given age group and this percentage will stand at 25%.

As for other countries and UK as an average, similar increasing trends can be observed. The proportion of old individuals for England is expected to rise from 15% in 1985 to nearly 25% in 2035. Northern Ireland had the lowest percentage at around 12%, is projected to reach also nearly 25%. Meanwhile, the UK average was 15% in 1985 and is predicted to be just under 25% in 2035.
