Some people argue that we should extend the number of houses in urban areas, while some people do not think it is as significant as planting trees in towns and cities. From my perspective, I am more on the same page with those who encourage developing environmental habitats.
Many visible benefits come from having tree diversity in urban areas. Trees and green areas create a peaceful living environment which promotes a better living standard and better mental health. Trees produce oxygen which can counteract heavy pollution in cities and provide a better quality of air. Planting more trees can also result in lower average temperatures and a reduced carbon footprint for the towns. Moreover, if the authorities increase the space to build parks, the cities can improve their aesthetic look, and more citizens have a chance to engage in outdoor activities like walking or riding a bike, thus improving both their physical and mental health.
However, there is a way the government can utilize areas in the cities to ensure citizen habitats and develop an in-town environment parallelly. Instead of increasing the number of houses horizontally, people can demolish many old residential areas to build apartments that can host more people vertically. The remaining spaces after urban planning should be occupied for areas such as parks or botanical gardens. Therefore, within the same square of the cities or towns, people can develop both a greater number of accommodations and a better urban environment.
In conclusion, I believe that urban areas should focus on planting trees due to their various advantages before taking and investment in building more houses.
