Overall, the consumption of most meat products and fish declined over the period, except for chicken, which comprised significant rise. It is noticeable that chicken consumption increased steadily, while beef, lamb, and fish consumption declined consistently throughout the period.
Starting with upward trends, in 1979 chicken’ consumption indicated roughly 150 grams per person in a week and it was increasing sustainably till 1999, reaching its peak of 250 grams in 2004. As for the categories with downward changes, initially, the amount of beef and lamb consumption was consumed around 220 and 150 grams respectively. Although both categories experienced a slight increase in 1989, beef consumption declined to around 140 grams and lamb dropped to about 60 grams per week by 2004. Lastly, fish remained the least consumed product throughout the period, starting at around 60 grams per person per week in 1979, with minimal fluctuations between 1984 and 2004.
