It is often argued that it could be more beneficial for students TO BE FORCED INTO KEY SUBJECT AREAS. While some reasons can be given to justify this, I believe that university students should focus on subjects that are more relevant to their career in the future.
On the one hand, there are those who argue that there are numerous advantages to students studying certain mandatory subjects. These subjects would equip students with foundational knowledge and skills in diverse fields, and they have a positive impact on their lives. For example, compulsory medicine courses could provide students with basic knowledge about their physical health and injury management skills, and this can be necessary in some emergency in their real lives. Secondly, learning a wide range of subjects at schools seems to force students to become more flexible and increase their adaptability. This can enable students to feel more confident and ready for the challenges and requirements of work in the rapidly changing labor market these days. Thereby it can increase the chance of career progression, better salaries, and therefore an improved quality of life.
On the other hand, I agree with those who argue that students should be allowed flexibility to choose subjects related to their fields in the future. The main reason is that this choice would provide students with an opportunity and condition to dethply access and achieve deeply knowledge about subjects in a particular field. If students only focused on certain subjects without share they for compulsory subjects, they could spend all their time and efforts expanding and deepening the knowledge related to their subjects, therefore they really become exel in those areas. For example, students aiming to become engineers might focus exclusively on natural sciences like mathematics and physics. This helps students reduce the pressure of unrelated subjects, enabling them to concentrate more deeply and achieve higher acdemic performance.
In conclusion, while I can understand why some people claim that it could be good for students to learn numerous subjects at schools, I firmly hold the view that it might seem sensible for students to focus only on the most useful subjects.
