The maps illustrate the transformations that occurred in a town named Dalton between 1815 and 2015.
Overall, Dalton was transformed into a significantly larger, more developed urban area. The most noticeable change was the dramatic increase in housing, the introduction of major transport infrastructure, the replacement of green spaces and farmland with new facilities.
On the western side of the town, the 1815 landscape featured Dalton forest, and a ford across the river. By 2015, the forest no longer existed, most of the trees were cut down, making way for some houses and a hospital in the north and an industrial zone with the construction of a bridge, which led to the extension of the ford.
To the east of Dalton town, the landscape in 1815 was relatively undeveloped, featuring a few houses, a hall farm, which contained many animals, and a vast space with a bridleway. However, by 2015, this area had modernized dramatically with a hotel and an airport being built, and the construction of the school in the center of the town. Additionally, a further striking alteration is that the hall farm was removed to give way to the appearance of the residential area with more houses were erected and many amenities.
