It is a longtime debate whether the government should fund in arts, music and theatre or use the money instead for public services. Although enhancing public services are vital for a society, I disagree that investing in arts is unnecessary. In my opinion, arts play a crucial role in enrichment of culture and economic growth.
Arts are the main means of cultural diversity and identity. Specifically, Arts broaden our knowledge about beliefs and lifestyles of historical eras through diverse forms of arts. For instance, while western paintings and sculptures era was about realistic figures in classical era, eastern approach was more conceptual and spiritual.
Furthermore, arts fostering economy by increasing the number of tourists and talents. Exhibitions, concerts, theatres are potential means of attracting the people from all around the world. therefore, small businesses will benefit from arts events. For instance, a city like Paris is well-known for its museums, theatres and art, has a remarkable annual income from tourists which can invest in public services as well.
In conclusion, while the public services are so important for a society well-being, arts are not separable from humans lives as always they were part of the social expression and a significant part of economic growth. It is suggested to balance the funds between these two sectors.
