Band 5+: In today's world, private companies rather than the government pay for and conduct most scientific research.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, all independent organisations and private companies support scientists and pay for their research. The beginners in scientific research field see more potential for their career through support from private companies. However, if both parties are not well aware of their rights, the patterns might not be fully protected.

First, scientists rarely get support from the government and they need to look for financial support from somewhere else. This is happening not only in the modern world, yet from ancient times. Private companies and entrepreneurs have been supporters of the scientist’s ideas. For example, Hippocrates, the father of Medicine, never got support from his government, Ancient Greece. Moreover, his own father and sons were providers and supported the “father of Medicine”. And most of the modern scientists look for private companies that can provide financial support for the ideas, that in the end might help to whole nation.

On the other hand, the private companies support scientist only if they have common interest in the research. So there might be a risk that the scientist can lose his rights to the pattern, because it becomes the company’s product. For instance, Fujifilm, in addition to photographic equipment, has actively invested in biomedical and diagnostic technologies. The scientist Yamamura, who signed up with Fujifilm, made researches about medical technologies. However, the company has filed patents for these technologies, indicating them as developed in the company.

In conclusion, the government is not always ready to support the scientists yet the private companies find a common platform with them. The respectful agreement and bilateral relations between the researcher and the second party always need to be main act for security.
