Research indicates that the transportation of humans and their goods are responsible for generating the highest levels of pollution on the planet. While some people argue that the government should take charge of this, I believe that individuals should also share the responsibility.
On the one hand, air pollution from transportation worldwide is a result of ineffective government policy. Some governments failed to restrict the vehicles on the road, leading to the increasing traffic congestion in big cities. In other words, this unintentionally encouraged more private cars and motorbikes appearing on the road, directly releasing toxic chemicals and gas into the air which cause severe pollution. Ha Noi, for example, ranked the second city in the world facing catastrophic air pollution in 2024 because of traffic jams during peak hours with the large number of transports simultaneously moving. In addition, some governments merely concentrate on economic development by any means and lack encouragement for local production and sustainable growth. Consequently, transporting goods over great distances or importing from other countries has been a common occurrence.
On the other hand, there are various factors that contribute to the belief that pollution caused by transportation is undoubtedly the fault of individuals. In today’s world, residents have little awareness about either the environment or pollution and its effects on humans as well as their surroundings. Some people even show modest concern to this serious environmental problem, reinforcing the rationale behind individuals’ faults. Furthermore, the public transport system is poorly constructed in some developing countries such as India and Mexico. These nations’ population do not have traffic privileges as other residents in wealthy countries focusing on train or subway lines such as Japan and England. As a result, products and humans will be widely carried out by cars and trucks, which emit considerable gas emissions into the air.
In conclusion, while governments are blamed for the responsibility of pollution worldwide provoked by goods and human transportation, the faults of individuals should not be ignored. Ultimately, I firmly believe that the government should propose more efficient policies, whereas society should also present noticeable consciousness about this situation.
