Various factors affecting the effectiveness of a classroom language have been a topic of a debate over the years. While some people argue that the number of students in language classes should be limited, others believe other aspects, including teachers’ pedagogical skills and classroom management methods are of greater importance. Personally, I will discuss both viewpoints and explain why I agree with this latter.
On the one hand, language learners can significantly benefit from small-sized classes. In such cases, teachers can better and provide customized support for their needs. Equally important, small numbers of students allow closer supervision while creating a supportive atmosphere, encouraging students’active participation in discussions. Students have more opportunities to establish better relationships with those sharing the same passion for language learning, expressing a more positive and engaging experience.
By contrast, the performance of education depends far more on teachers’ quality. In light of this essay, teachers’quality is the most influential factor in student achievement, playing a more significant role than class size. If teachers have experience and high advanced, they can also manage classes and convey knowledge effectively while students have opportunities to develop skills, such as discipline, communication skills, leadership skills. Besides, enjoyable classroom activities are one of the ways to promote students’participation and boost their confidence.
In conclusion, although it is argued that smaller classes lead to better academic performance, I believe that teaching methods and class activities should be prioritized, because they provide students with supportive and interactive learning environments which facilitate the use of target languages and create more meaningful interactions.
