Crime has been one of the major issues throughout human history. Some say that crime rate is decreasing compared to the past owing to the advancement of technology. Although advanced technology prevent and help tackle such issues, cybercrime has become prevalent, contributing to the rise of overall criminal activity.
On the one hand, the development of modern technology significantly reduced illegal acts. With the help of surveillance systems, cameras, and facial recognition devices, individuals are avoiding offending crimes, especially theft and vandalism. People who are attempting to do criminal activity likely to stay away from engaging in it when they are aware of they are being watched. As a result, the number of people violating the law is decreasing. In addition, technology’s advancement also enabling crime reports to reach communities faster and take action without consuming time.
On the other hand, digital technology makes the crimes more complicated. Hackers are logging in individuals’ bank accounts and stealing private information. These types of law violations are becoming more advanced that criminals can hide their identity with fake accounts. Moreover, cyberbullying and online harassment are becoming prevalent among school children and teenagers due to the lack of knowledge about cybercrime, subsequently resulting in physical and material loss.
In conclusion, I believe modern technology is not only benefited in reducing theft, vandalism, and other types of crimes, but also increased the complexity and methods of online violence of law.
