Overall, Russia produced a significanty higher proportion of timber and possessed a large share of the world’s compared to other regions. It is also worth mentioning that Europe had lowest percentage of both forest area and timber production.
In 2010, South America accounted for13.2% of the world’s forest, while Russia made up 24.2%. America represented 21.9% and another region accounted for 26.5%. During this period, Europe and Asia/Oceania had the lowest shares, at 5% and 9.2% respectively.
Regarding timber production, South Africa accounted for 11.2% , while Russia recorded the highest proportion at 37.5%. North America’s share stood 12.8%, and figure for the South Amerika contributed 15%. However, Asia produced 14.3% of global and Europe accounted for 9.2% of timber production in given year.
