Overall, the number of buyers using both local and international websites in 2012 prevailed over those who preferred using one of the platforms in Australia and New Zealand. Following that, the lower price remained the dominant reason for online shopping in both countries.
People using local and international platforms have the largest market share. The category dominated among the number of users in Australia taking up at 72%, followed by New Zealand at 65%.
However, those who used only local or international websites in New Zealand dominated over Australian ones, taking up 25% and 10%, respectively. The Australian residents accounted for 20% and 10% for the same categories.
With regards to reasons, over a half of buyers in both countries chose online platforms over physical shops due to the lower price. Convenience and quality of products were less than a quarter of the market in 2012. The percentage of the consumers who preferred online shopping over the other reasons remained the same in Australia and New Zealand at 5%.
