The bar chart compares the proportions of adults aged 15-75+ who are not physically active in Australia, according to age and gender.
Overall, the percentage of both inactive females and males shows an upward trend with age, but drops dramatically at the age of 65 to 74. However, at the age of 75+, it rapidly rises. Notably, the men are more active or their activity level is similar to that of women throughout the given age group, except for the 45-54 and 55-64 age groups, where the females take the primacy.
The percentage of females who avoid physical activity varied widely, with those who are 75+ years old being the highest in the dataset, slightly over 50% — almost three times the figure for 15-24 age group women(about 18%). A close second is the figure of the 55-64 age group, with slightly less than 40%. While 30% of inactive females were in the 65-74 age category, the figures for 35-44 and 45-54 age intervals were somewhat similar at slightly over than 25% and about 25%, respectively. Lastly, females aged 25 to 34 had the proportion of just over 20%.
The percentage of males, on the other hand, had the same pattern. The highest proportion was of the 55-64 and 75+ age group, with just over than 40% — almost three times the figure for 15-24 aged men (about 15%). While the 45-54 and 65-74 age categories is 30% and about 25%, respectively, the 35-44 and 25-34 age-groups is about 25% and 15%.
