With the advent of technological development, there is a tendency of society to lean towards modernity and materialism which at times suppress the traditional culture, and it becomes a thing of past. When this happens, newer generation becomes less interested and lack awareness of their own traditions, and seek and embrace modernity in their everyday lives. However, there are certain groups and communities which try to preserve and showcase their culture through technology, to connect with various people around globe. For example, Irish people celebrating their ancient festivals through small community concerts. Thus, I partially agree with the above statement and will further discuss reasons in this essay.
Firstly, technology often leads to complex society in which the individual’s function is more elaborate and efficient, however, work is more burdensome and difficult. This leads to less family or community interactions and decline in efforts to preserve culture or traditions, due to alienation from society. Moreover, modern society has increased our dependency on technology which has connected people from different nationalities, however, it has not been utilised enough to bring unity in traditions and to better understand other people.
However, technology has helped to develop online communities which are helpful to impart information and knowledge to large audience. Likewise, it has a huge role in preserving festivals and arts through awareness posts, which could make people proud of their heritage. For instance, Indian community abroad celebrating and preserving their cultures through festivals such as Holi and Diwali.
In conclusion, an efficient and constructive use of technology could make our efforts easier in preserving our culture, however there should be community effort which would make it more impactful.
