Nowadays, many people believe that schools and institutions must teach children about manners and etiquette apart from theoretical knowledge. In my perspective, Teaching students how to behave is one of the main responsibility of schools and must not be taken for granted.
Firstly, good manners is the most important thing of an individual. Regardless of their occupation, their wealth and their talents, if they behave badly, everything about them is ruined. This way, every efforts in teaching formal knowledge is wasted. Therefore, schools should spend time and money for both theoretical knowledge and social norms alike. Secondly, bad behaviours are the sole reason for the emergence of social evils and crimes. As an educational institution, teaching criminals is considered an absolute failure as they can not provide social with valuable individuals who can foster developments. This phenomenon can also pose threat to schools’ safety as bullying, fighting and swearing become popular, which disrupts the ideal learning environment.
Thirdly, it affects the school’s prestige as well. This is because people are fast to assess and rate everything that is involved with a negative action. For example, if a burglar got caught, their parents would be the second one to face criticisms and hate from the society. Similarly, a school can also be assessed through their student’s action even though they are not directly involved.
In short, schools should take responsibility for educating children about manners for the sake of their prestige, students’ success and social development.
