It is often argued that hosting an international sporting event is highly beneficial for a country. Whereas, others argue that it has negative consequences. This essay will discuss both perspectives before presenting my own viewpoint.
There are numerous advantages to organizing such large-scale events. To begin with, hosting international sports events enhances a country’s global image and promotes tourism. Millions of viewers from around the world watch these competitions, which provide a golden opportunity to showcase the tradition, local cuisine, fashion, customs, advanced transportation, and tourist attractions of the host nation. As a consequence, countries often experience a long-term increase in tourist arrivals. Moreover, these events create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth. The construction of stadiums, transportation systems, and accommodation facilities, alongside promoting company brands, can benefit the country even after the event has ended.
On the other hand, critics claim that hosting international events can have several drawbacks. One major disadvantage is the significant financial burden placed on governments. Organizing such events requires an enormous expenditure on infrastructure, security, transportation, and public health, which may heavily strain national budgets. In some cases, facilities built for the events are underused afterward, leading to wasted resources. Another concern is the social and economic disruption caused during the event period; the basic price of staple goods and services often rises, and local communities may face major inconvenience due to overcrowding and awful living costs.
In conclusion, even though arranging international sports events can be costly and create certain challenges, it also offers substantial benefits in terms of economic development and global recognition. In my opinion, if such events are carefully planned and efficiently managed, the long-term, sustainable advantages can ultimately outweigh the disadvantages.
