It is becoming increasingly prevalent to encourage schools to advertise products of fast food restaurants and stores by giving money. Personally, I strongly believe that this is a negative development. Because promoting misleading advertisements on a not fully formed target audience can have a significant impact on children’s health.
From a healthcare perspective, advertising campaigns tend to pose a threat to young people’s well being, especially if their products are promoted at school. Teenagers are particularly vulnerable to inaccurate marketing strategies which can drive them to buy unhealthy food. Over time, it can easily be formed into a bad habit of consuming high-fat products on a regular basis. Although adolescents may get used to it, they can develop critical health problems within a short period of time. Thus, schools that receive money to promote eating goods can build not only a negative habit in youth but also jeopardize their health. For example, students who constantly consume advertised harmful products can become more susceptible to liver and stomach illnesses, deteriorating their well-being at an early age.
Nevertheless, in order to avoid the spread of such systems it is important to assert law regarding the strategies applied by companies. Strict regulations can greatly reduce the impact of deceptive encouragements used by companies, thus preventing the deterioration of young people’s health. For example, the products of fast food restaurants and supermarkets should not be advertised in schools, where students’ focus should not be flattered by unnecessary information. Instead, these types of food companies must marketise what they have to offer only on online websites or social media platforms that can give them better opportunities to have a large audience of clients. This way they will no longer promote their products at schools to a less mature group of people and hopefully avoid future health problems from occurring.
In conclusion, it is becoming common for junk food businesses to give money to educational centres for the purpose of advertising their products. However, shifting their focus towards online tools for promotion can make a huge difference in maintaining the good health of students.
