Economic development is argued to have adverse effects on the environment by some individuals. This essay partially agrees, as while some economic industries fail to account for severe environmental degradation, others offer numerous effective benefits.
On the one hand, it is worth bearing in mind that economic boost is the main culprit of great environmental damage. This could be proved by the exploitation of natural resources such as fossil fuels or coal, which includes increasing deforestation or producing greenhouse gas, thereby resulting in resource scarcity and climate change. Another prominent factor is the rapid growth of mass tourism, which could lead to destruction of various ecosystems. A case in point is Mexico, where influxes of tourists and run-off from coastal hotels’ sewage cause algal bloom, devastating the coral reef’s population and marine biodiversity.
It should also be noted that not every industry brings about problems. First and foremost, circular industries such as biodegradable packaging or organic agriculture are greatly promoted worldwide. This model is designed to eliminate waste and pollution along with keeping products at their highest value as long as possible, therefore giving rise to a more sustainable economy. Furthermore, renewable energy industries are growing rapidly, which could mitigate many pressing environmental issues. Take China, for instance. This country not only dominates solar energy manufacturing but accounts for nearly half of solar panels in the world.
In summary, while it is undeniable that economic boom triggers environmental destruction, there are still other sustainable industries, which provide effective methods. As a result, the government and the communities should promote the clean industries’ development.
