The plans illustrate the layout of a college café before its refurbishment and compare it with its current design.
Overall, the café has been extensively modernised. While the kitchen, the main indoor seating area and the toilets have remained in the same locations, the former serving counter and staff dining rooms have been replaced by a wider range of food-service facilities. In addition, several new amenities, including a salad bar, a barbecue, outdoor seating and recycling bins, have been introduced.
Before the redesign, the kitchen occupied the north-west corner of the café and was connected to a single serving area that provided both food and drinks. Most of the remaining indoor space consisted of tables and chairs. To the north-east of the seating area were two staff dining rooms, while a bin was positioned beside the entrance on the eastern side. The toilets were located in the south-east corner.
Following the renovation, the original serving area was converted into a hot meals counter. The two staff dining rooms were removed to make way for a takeaway food section and a coffee bar, while a salad bar was installed along the western wall. Furthermore, the ordinary bin was replaced with recycling bins near the entrance. The most significant external change was the addition of a barbecue and a spacious outdoor seating area along the southern side of the café, substantially increasing its capacity for customers.
