The two maps illustrate the transformation of waterfront area in Darwin town between 2009 and 2016.
Overall, the area became more sustainable in the latter period, with more trees replacing the industrial area on both sides. Moreover, the addition of other amenities like university and residential buildings made this town more accessible and convenient for visitors.
Initially, the Darwin town used to be mainly industrial site where many factories occupied almost all place in center, with a few trees in the north of three-block houses. In northern-east corner, there was place for fishing on sea that covered whole east side of the map. There was also central lake top of which were a school and convention center. Lastly, two swimming pools were nearly located to the sea from the right and residential area from the left.
Over time, lots of alterations were added to make it more visitor-friendly. For instance, the number of buildings for residents doubled on the same location. Also, the major changes took place in central area where factories were demolished in order to plant more green lush. Another new swimming pool facility was placed in the area that was used mainly for industrial purposes besides the a lake. While other places like school, convention center, and lake remained intact, university and harbour were introduced, almost opposite to each other.
