On the positive side, the ubiquity of advertisements can enhance public awareness in several aspects. Initially, the widespread visibility of advertisements enables individuals to become more informed about various products, services, and societal issues. This can be achieved through exposure to promotional content which highlights different offerings and prices. Additionally, the proliferation of advertising contributes to economic growth by stimulating consumer expenditure, fostering competition, and generating employment opportunities within the advertising industry. Furthermore, many online platforms and media channels rely on advertising revenue to offer free access to content and services, which would otherwise be paid for by users.
On the other hand, the escalating prevalence of advertisements also brings about some adverse effects. Primarily, advertisements can intrude upon and disrupt the user experience. Irrelevant advertising content can be particularly bothersome, as it may not align with the user’s original intent or interest. For example, when seeking educational resources online, unrelated advertisements for products such as soft drinks or snacks might appear, undermining the user’s intended purpose. Moreover, this trend may give rise to manipulation and deception, as certain advertisements may employ misleading tactics to influence consumers to make purchases. False or exaggerated claims, exaggerated benefits, and unfulfilled promises could lead to a decline in trust and confidence in advertising. Consequently, consumers may find themselves disillusioned if the product or service advertised does not meet their expectations.
