It has been argued that large corporations that are utilizing athletic events to advertise their products are damaging sports. I disagree with this statement and believe these promotions make more people interested in sports and encourage more people to pursue a career in athletics.
Firstly, to increase their sales and product visibility, these companies allocate massive budgets to make sports events appealing to individuals; therefore, an increasing number of people will be enthusiastic about sports and take part in them, which can be good for their health, and it also helps sports industry to preserve their popularity. For example, big brands such as Nike spend millions of dollars annually to conduct marathons across the world to promote their newest shoes; as a result, more people have physical activities and sports such as long-distance foot races can maintain their popularity.
Secondly, nowadays successful corporations often use famous professional athletes to advertise their products. I believe this trend and the money offered by these companies can encourage more individuals to participate in sports professionally and raise more competition among new sportsmen to be more creative and make sports more entertaining for fans, so they can become more recognizable among large companies. For instance, a basketball player may invent new techniques and perform differently to demonstrate his or her skills, which can be both interesting to his or her audience and enhance the player’s reputation which can result in lucrative contracts from big brands.
In conclusion, in my opinion, sports events and large companies that financially support them are beneficial to sports, as they can help them to preserve their popularity and increase the number of their audience. Additionally, massive budgets that these companies spend on sports events motivate more people to become professional athletes and perform differently from other sportsmen which can boost their sport’s popularity.
