People have different views on foreign movies. However, while some people believe that they should be imported to broaden horizons and improve the quality of local movies, I side with those who feel that it is better to stick to local films.
On the one hand, it is argued that importing foreign films and TV shows promote cultural exchange, allowing people to have a deeper understanding of other cultures and traditions. This exchange facilitates cultural understanding and exposes audiences to diverse perspectives, broadening their worldview. For instance, many Bollywood movies represent their local customs and traditions, which helps viewers to learn about this part of the world that they may not have been aware of otherwise. Furthermore, foreign films introduce advanced filmmaking techniques due to higher budgets, high production values or unique storytelling styles, which can inspire local filmmakers to increase the quality of their productions and foster creativity. This exposure might help further develop the entertainment industry.
On the other hand, I, along with many others, feel that TV programs and movies should be produced locally for two main reasons. Firstly, investing in domestic industries boosts the economy and creates jobs for actors, producers and journalists, to name but a few, encouraging local talent. This also brings revenue for other sectors that can benefit from this industry such as tourism, which is positively affected by the country’s popularity. In addition, local media reinforces national identity and plays a vital role in preserving cultural heritage, promoting underlining national values and traditions, since local movies often represent these elements, which are more significant than ever in this increasingly globalized world.
In conclusion, although foreign media may result in cultural immersion and reinforce higher production values, producing TV programs and movies locally benefits the economy while also preserving cultural heritage. Therefore, I believe that it is important for each nation to curate their own media.
