For centuries, newspapers have been the primary source of information for individuals to update on local and global events. This undeniable influence on people’s beliefs and perspectives. From my perspective, the benefits of newspapers overshadow their pitfalls.
On the one hand, newspapers can benefit the public in a variety of ways. To commence with, it is a rudiment method to inform individuals of the latest information. In other words, those deprived of modern means of updating information can still learn about everyday events. Moreover, the reputation of newspapers as being a trustworthy source of information can allow readers to form informed opinions based on a foundation of verified information. This is due to the employment of adept journalists who strive for accuracy and objectivity plays a key role in the integrity of newspapers.
On the other hand, certain newspapers can be misleading or even tendentious. There are no limitations on what can be posted in newspapers; therefore, there is a likelihood that particular individuals will take advantage of this and spread false information. Furthermore, newspapers are susceptible to manipulation by the dominant social stratum. Therefore, some newspapers may be corrupted, tergiversating the previously intended messages. For instance, authoritarian countries, notably China and North Korea, can effortlessly compromise whatever information they want to provide, indoctrinating false beliefs to their citizens.
In conclusion, even though some newspaper presses can cause controversy, the majority of newspapers are substantially reliable to society. From my viewpoint, it is fundamental to evaluate the credibility of newspapers before reading them. Additionally, very few nations are authoritarian and encourage the spread of fake news. Accordingly, it is of little worry that certain news may be deliberately manipulated.
