People always wanted to know news and trends, and most of these individuals chose newspapers. Newspapers not only give news, but also, they have affected on people’s opinions and ideas because when they read shocking information or great tidings in newspapers, their opinion about people, government, fame and wealth will change significantly. I am of the opinion that it is negative development, and I will explain my reasoning in the essay.
To begin with, newspapers were developed in seventieth century by American developers and it was developed for government news. At that time, people didn’t have anything like that to make announcements. Therefore, people fully believed what was written even if it was fake. In addition, newspapers were the easiest way to provide important problems like catastrophes and crises. Most people were relying on newspapers rather than other sources even people started to ignore ministry reports.
Moving to the next aspect, this confidence was just before that lots of newspapers started to misleading information. For example, in 1857 one of the most popular newspapers “The Wall Street Journal” published that 4 hospitals were bombed, and criminal were asking $400.000 from government. Of course, it was fake information, however, as I mentioned before people totally believed and a lot of citizens panicked. After a few months, they apologized but I think it was too late. Individuals have already understood that they can’t trust anyone or anything.
In conclusion, newspaper was the fastest way to disseminate updates, and they have influenced in people’s view but unfortunately, it affected negatively. One canard costed million peoples’ confidence.
