It is said that it is crucial to give an opportunity to behave freely and let them decide at an early age. I disagree with this idea; they are not mature enough to know what is wrong and what is right, and if they perform their desired actions, it could result in bad behavior toward their social interactions and even health problems in some cases.
On the one hand, letting children act freely, especially at a young age, has numerous disadvantages. For instance, they may start talking to their friends, family, or even strangers disrespectfully. This is because most young children learn many behaviors from adults’ speech. Since there are enough people who are rude, children have a tendency to imitate what these people are doing and saying. Hence, parents or their relatives, in this case, have to give their advice and teach them how to distinguish right from wrong. Children are eager to try new and diverse foods, like junk food or colorful candies. For instance, when they see brightly packaged snacks in stores, they often insist on trying them, driven by curiosity and visual appeal. Obviously, these foods are not recommended for them or may contain ingredients that harm their health.
On the other hand, many think that letting toddlers decide is beneficial for their future, as it improves their critical thinking skills. While it is true that by deciding at a younger age they can choose what they like and love doing in their later life, I would consider that, with toxic behavior and bad health, there is no point in being successful. If individuals develop negative attitudes, their family and friends may distance themselves, and these so-called “successful” people might struggle with arrogance and social isolation.
In conclusion, parents or people who are responsible for children have to supervise them and give their advice on what to do or not do. Giving them complete freedom without proper direction may lead to negative consequences in their social lives and overall well-being.
