The bar graph compares the average pass rate of the first – year undergraduates in six different subjects in 2008 and 2012.
Overall,the most noteworthy change was that in 2012 students were ranked much higher than in 2008 except for Health Science where the percentage remained the same, approximately 41 in both years. The most noticeable difference between 2008 and 2012 was in Business, the percentage increase was almost 30%, while Humanities and Computer Science witnessed less difference between years, approximately 7 and 13 percent, respectively. The marks in Math, Engineering and Science were almost twice as high in 2012 than in 2008.
A more detailed look reveals that students were the least successful in Humanities in comparison to the rest of the subject, just around 5% in 2008 and about 13% in 2012. Top of the disciplines was Computer Studies where students were assessed the highest, 70% in 2008 and approximately 13% in 2012. The marks for Business and Science were relatively similar in 2012, around 51% and 48 %, respectively, while in 2008 the percentage in Business was slightly lower than in Computer Science, 22 percent compared to 26 percent, which means that the difference was not so big. The scores for Computer and Engineering in 2008 were a little lower than for Health Science, however, in 2012 the figure improved significantly, by approximately 20 percent.
Clearly, 2012 was more successful for students than 2008. There was a noticeable growth in student’s progress with just one exception for Health Science where the figure witnesses no changes in both years.
