The maps illustrate changes to the ground floor layout of an art gallery between 2005 and the present day.
Overall, the gallery has become more accessible, with significant improvements for disabled visitors and a shift in focus from exhibition space to additional facilities.
In 2005, access to the building was via stairs at the bottom of the plan, with a staircase directly opposite the entrance leading to the upper floors. By contrast, the current layout features a ramp for wheelchair users and a lift, while the staircase has been reduced in size to accommodate the new elevator.
Previously, there were four exhibition rooms, with Exhibition Room 4, the largest, located in the bottom left corner. The remaining three lined the right-hand side of the building. In the updated layout, the three rooms on the right remain, although the final room has been reduced to make space for a temporary exhibition area and an open, interactive children’s zone.
The reception desk, once positioned near Exhibition Room 4, has been relocated to the centre of the entrance hall and redesigned with a circular shape. Additionally, the gallery office behind the former reception area has been removed. The café and shop area in the top left corner has been converted into a gallery shop, while food and drinks are now available from a vending machine placed where the gallery office once was.
