The bar chart compares four cities in Australia, namely Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth in terms of the amount of apartments approved to be built between 2012 and 2016.
Overall, all cities under consideration witnessed upward trend in the number of flats, with minor fluctuations, except for Sydney which saw only consistent increase. Notably, Sydney stands out as it confirmed the highest figures for housing blocks for construction throughout most of the period. However, Perth had the lowest figures among the cities shown.
Initially, Sydney and Melbourne followed a similar pattern at the beginning of the period, starting with respective figures of 15,000 and 17,000. Subsequently, the former saw a slight increase to 17,000 in 2014, followed by the biggest rises to above 30,000 over the last two years. Despite hitting a low of 15,000 in 2013, the figure for the latter rose significantly to peak at about 25,000 in 2015, but then fell to approximately 22,000.
In terms of Brisbane and Perth, they had a rising pattern with lower figures, beginning at almost 8,000 and 2,500, respectively. Since 2013, the figure for Brisbane started to grow to over 10,000 and hovered around this level in 2016, albeit reaching the highest point at about 15,000 in 2015. As for Perth’s figure, it consistently went up to above 5,000 in 2014, but two years later fell to precisely 5,000.
