The bar chart illustrates how many apartments were approved for construction in four Australian cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth – over a 5-year period from 2012 to 2016.
Overall, there were varying degrees of approvals in each city through the period. Sydney had the highest number of approvals by the end of the period, showing an upward trend. At the same time, Perth showed the lowest number of approvals of all four cities.
In 2012, Melbourne had just under 20,000 approved apartments, which was the highest number. At the same time, Sydney had 15,000 apartments. Over the next few years, Sydney experienced a rapid increase, reaching about 33,000 in 2016. Melbourne also had its growth, but a fluctuating one: it reached its peak in 2015 with around 24,000, before slightly dropping in 2016. Perth, on the other hand, did not have any significant changes, beginning with less than 5,000 and climbing slowly to around 6,000 in both 2014 and 2015, showing a slight upward trend.
