Overall, Japanense nationals preferred going aborad rather than travelling their own country. As a result, Australia saw a major influx of Japenese citizens choosing it over their own country.
Japan saw a significant growth in the number of nationals travelling abroad from just over 4 million in the year 1985 to around 11 million in 1990. Although this number declined in the year 1991 to approximately around 10.5 millions but it was short lived as the citizens again started exploring various nations for the next four years, peaking in the year 1995 with around 14.7 million people choosing different countries as their travel destination.
Japanese citizens contributed majorly in the Australian tourism sector from 2% in the year 1985 to just below 5% in the year 1988. With just a little dip in the year 1989, this number kept surging , peaking in the year 1993 with approximately 6.05% contribution in the Australian tourist market before falling back again to around 6% in the year 1994.
