Overall, every country experienced growth in renewable electricity generation over the two decades, with Brazil consistently producing the largest share and India the smallest.
In 2000, Brazil’s renewable share stood out at around 40%, significantly higher than the other countries. Germany came second at roughly 10%, followed by the USA with about 8%. China’s proportion was slightly lower, at around 5%, and India recorded the lowest figure at just 3%.
By 2020, Brazil had strengthened its position, rising to approximately 55%. Germany’s share more than tripled to about 35%, overtaking the USA and China. The USA’s figure increased to around 25%, while China reached roughly 20%. Although India remained in last place, its share grew fivefold to around 15%, representing the largest proportional gain among the five nations.
