The three pie charts illustrate Springfield College’s spending on various expenditures across three separate years: 1990, 2000, and 2010.
Overall, teacher salaries represented the largest expense for the school, while spending on technology and insurance saw dramatic increases. In contrast, there were significant reductions in expenditures for furniture and equipment, books, and other workers’ salaries.
In all three years, the highest spending was allocated to teacher salaries. While the percentage for other workers’ salaries decreased from 28% in 1990 to 15% in 2010, teacher salaries remained the largest cost. They accounted for 40% of total spending in 2000 and ended at 45%, which is three times the amount spent on other workers’ salaries.
Between 2000 and 2010, the most notable change occurred in technology, which surged from 3% to 23% of total spending. Simultaneously, the budget allocation for books fell dramatically from 9% to just 1%. Expenditure on furniture and equipment also rose, increasing from 5% to 15%. Lastly, spending on insurance continued to climb, reaching 8% in 2010.
