Overall, both men and women aged 40-59 are the ones most prone to hearing loss, with those aged 5 and under losing hearing much less often. Notably, in the most of categories females outnumber males.
Regarding males in the USA, the age group of 40-59 is the largest figure of those suffering from hearing loss, accounting for approximately 34%. Coming a close second is the age category between 20-39 years, with 33% of men losing hearing. Markedly, those aged between 60 and 69 with around 12% of men who start losing hearing is almost a third of the figure for 40-59.
As for females, a similar pattern can be observed, most of them start to loss hearing at the age 40-59, however the proportion in slightly lower then male’s – 32%. The figures of the age groups 60-69 and 70 and over are almost equal – approximately 17 and 16 percentages.
