The bar chart illustrates the five different pathways of students after Physics and Art course completion in the UK in the year 2007.
Overall, the lion’s share was held by the percentage of students who opted for full-time job, which far exceeded other surveyed choices. Notably, the reverse pattern was seen in the rate of recent graduates who made a dicision to do part-time courses as well as working, taking up a minority of the whole category.
Regarding art design students, full-time employment remained the dominant outcome, maintaining its lead at 25%. By contrast, the proportions entering postgraduate study, engaging in part-time work or study, or falling into other categories fluctuated within a narrower range of around 5% to 15%, while 10% of graduates remained unemployed in 2007.
Conversely, 35% of physics gradutes were reported to be full-time workers. In comparison, almost a half were taking their graduate courses or work-related training (20%) or doing part-time courses as well as working (nearly 9%), and the unemployment rate of physics students was also slightly higher than that of art design students, at 15%.
